Curriculum vitae

My name is Julian Unkel and I work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Media and Communication at LMU Munich. I have received my doctoral degree (Dr. rer. soc.) in January 2019 from LMU Munich, and have before obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in communication.

In my research, I am mainly interested in processes of information selection and reception of media users, particularly in the realm of search engines. Other research projects I have worked on dealt with the development of media streaming services, television usage analysis, the entertainment experiences of playing digital games, and quantitative research methodology.

I consider myself a quantitative media researcher and have employed quantitative surveys, content analyses and automated observations in my research projects, often combined with experimental study designs. For data analysis purposes, I have utilized a variety of statistical models, including linear and logistic regressions, structural equation modelling, and multi-level models. Recently, I have been increasingly using Bayesian models.
